Red Tags + Safety Violation Repair
Occasionally, people receive a Safety Violation from Enbridge or after a licensed gas technician identifies an unsafe condition or something that violates gas codes and standards. Depending on the severity, your natural gas may be shut off until the necessary repairs are made. This is done to ensure the safety of the residents and property. If the situation is not an immediate danger but still violates gas codes, the property owner is given 40 days to make the repairs before the gas company returns to shut off the gas service.
Why have I received a warning tag?
The technician writing the tag will explain the infraction in detail and what needs to be done to fix it. In most cases, it’s your gas provider writing the infraction, and they do not do any repairs on piping or equipment belonging to the homeowner.
Type A: If a licensed technician has identified an immediate danger, you will receive a Type A red tag and your natural gas will be turned off right away. This is typically due to a gas leak or carbon monoxide being present.
Type B: If the violation does not pose an immediate danger to the homeowner, a Type B warning tag will be applied and the local utility notified. This tag gives the customer a specified period of time to have the equipment repaired or replaced. If corrective action is not taken within the stipulated timeline, your natural gas will be turned off by the local utility, usually enbridge.
